Title Impact of new technologies in data collection methods
Year 2008

Abstract

New technologies are having a dual impact on data collection methods. From one side they change people’s habits and way of living, frequently having an impact on data collection methods. For example cell phone ownership is forcing researchers to come up with new sampling designs and strategies to collect information from the cell phone only population. For another side, new technology is enabling survey researchers to either collect data in a different way, for example web surveys, or to provide insights in the response process. Examples are the use of eye tracking analysis and the use of paradata in web administered collection. In this paper new technological advances and challenges will be discussed.
